My path to painting was somewhat accidental. Years ago, I was given a set of India inks. They sat unused in a spare room for quite a while until I finally decided to pick them up. I'd never taken a painting class, and I had no particular technique or style in mind. I just started experimenting.

My background is actually in music and architecture. I studied music for many years and spent some time in architecture school. I think both have influenced the way I paint, especially my interest in structure, rhythm, repetition, proportion, and the use of open space.

I begin by letting washes of color move across the paper. I like seeing what happens—colors bleeding together, pigments collecting along edges, and unexpected shapes appearing. Often, little accidents become my favorite parts of a painting.

After the paper dries I may not touch the piece again for weeks or even months. Eventually, I work with whatever has developed on the paper, adding lines, geometric shapes, and patterns. I enjoy the contrast between those loose, unpredictable beginnings and the more deliberate details that come afterward.

I never start with a particular image or finished composition in mind. For me, much of the enjoyment is in slowly finding the resolution—deciding what to add, what to change, and sometimes when to leave something exactly as it is.

This journey began for me in 2023 and I'm excited to be a part of this community.
