The rules set forth here for entering and participating in an Artists’ Link (AL) exhibition apply to all AL shows unless noted otherwise for a specific show. Any such changes will be described in the Prospectus for that show. Each venue at which AL exhibitions are held has its own requirements and rules. These will be noted also in the Prospectus for the venue’s exhibition. Work that does not comply with all exhibition rules, either listed here or written in the Prospectus for a specific show, will be rejected.
1. Artists’ Link membership must be current at the time a show entry is submitted.
2. Entry forms and fees (if required) must be completed properly and received by the entry deadline. If the venue is filled before the entry deadline, notice will be emailed to membership stating that no more entries can be accepted for the exhibition. All fees submitted are non-refundable, unless venue is full and the entry cannot be accepted.
3. Artwork submitted must be the artists’ own original concept and execution.
4. Artwork cannot have been shown previously in an Artists’ Link Exhibition, with the exception of Theatre Memphis and recent virtual shows.
5. Maximum and minimum size specifications will be described in each show’s Prospectus.
6. Artwork to be hung, including photography, digital art and 3-dimensional works, must comply with the following rules. If in doubt, verify hanging/display plan with exhibition chairperson before delivering to the venue.
a) Art must be properly framed or presented on gallery wrapped canvas or cradled board; edges of unframed pieces must be 1.5” deep and edges must be finished for display. Frames with glass cannot be more than 20” high or wide; any frame larger must have Plexiglas instead of glass. Three-dimensional work to be hung must be in a shadow-box or otherwise protected. Diptychs/triptychs must be in one frame or attached together to be hung as one piece in order to be considered as one entry. Paint/varnish/glue must be dry when delivered to the venue.
b) Wire hanger must be securely in place on back of art piece. No sawtooth hangers will be accepted. At most venues, the art will hang from metal cables, so position the wire hanger so that art will hang as flat to the wall as possible. Generally, that means wire is attached about ¼ of way down from top edge of the piece, and the wire is pulled taut, not loose. Gauge of wire must be strong enough to hold the weight of art piece.
c) Reproductions of original drawings and/or paintings must be from small limited edition print runs and the reproduction must be numbered and signed; the accompanying label/card and the entry form submitted must identify the artwork as a limited edition.
7. Three-dimensional work that will not be hung requires a stable stand or pedestal provided by the artist.
8. Entries must be delivered and picked up (and signed in and out) only at times and places specified on the Prospectus/Entry form. It is each artist’s responsibility to comply with the designated times/dates, or to arrange for someone else to do so. It is not the responsibility of the Exhibition Committee to deliver and/or pick up any artist’s work or to arrange for exceptions on their behalf. All exhibited items must remain in place until the end of the show unless the venue allows for a sold piece to be removed early. Do not contact the venue about making any exceptions to this rule, either about drop off or pick up.
9. Two cards, each with name, email, phone number of the artist and with the title, medium, size (final size including frame if any), and price of the artwork must be attached to back of each entry. Attach one card loosely so it can be easily removed.
10. When Artists’ Link has a juried show, the juror will have the final decision about the acceptance of art for the exhibition.
11. Artists’ Link will not be responsible for damaged or lost artwork in connection with any exhibition, including transportation and display.
